Well, let's just start by saying that having to get up for a four hour drive to downtown Indianapolis at 5 am just isn't fun! However with that being said, my drive up was rather enjoyable. I not only did I drive the whole trip, but was in control of the radio...which meant that I got to sing and listen to what I liked. Which is always a plus for me.
I only went to the Con one actual day, so when we arrived I dropped my stuff off at my Grandfather's and the promptly took the boys down to their hotel. Even after just leaving them off and circling back I still managed to see a couple of Cosplayers walking down the street. It's always stuff like this that makes you really appreciate being a general nerd!
The rest of my Thursday was spent just hanging out with family. I managed to do this loads this weekend. Don't get me wrong, I love my family...but after going to the Con, I feel like I cheated myself out of time that I could have spent there. So next time, I will be going all days and not just the one!
Once my husband and I got up and functioning, I took him back down to the Con for him to spend all day and planned on meeting him downtown for dinner that night. So, while he was there gaming his head off, I spent the afternoon with my Aunt and Uncle. First it was lunch, and then shopping, and on our way back to their house, my mom and aunt thought it would be funny to do a Chinese fire drill. Not only was it the funniest thing I've ever seen, but also slightly embarrassing. I however, stayed put! Once we arrived back to their house, my uncle took me to go and see Kick Ass 2.
Once the movie was over, I headed down town to meet my husband for dinner. We ran into traffic, not because of the time of day it was, but because not only was Gen Con going on, but there was also a Biker Rally thing that was happening on the Circle! It was SO loud! Back to dinner: We walked from the boys' hotel to Nicky Blane's. Which to us was humorous since it's a Cigar Bar and only one person in our party smoked. But the real reason we went...the Dublin Sandwich! It's a roast beef sandwich made of pure sin, and SO good!
Saturday! Oh my God, Saturday! I wish that my Saturday had been longer. Once I got up and got ready, I totally changed my mind about dressing up, mainly because of all the awesome people that were dressed up that we had seen just walking around. I would have just looked like I was just dressed up to go out versus Cosplaying. When you're in nerd culture, you understand. I still managed to get weird looks because of my normal clothing choices (my closet if full of business casual from work).
Once we started walking around the con, I realized quickly how BIG this thing was. I couldn't believe that even just after 10 am how many people were out! It was complete madness just trying to walk around. But our first stop was the Dealer's room since my first event didn't start until noon. Even after walking around this huge area for just over an hour and a half, we still managed to not see everything!
My first event: Hair Flower making! It was so cool, and something I would have never thought possible to make. Not to mention, super easy! I had so much fun making them. I can't wait to go out and buy all the stuff for them and make more! :)
Once that two hour long event was over with, which flew by, we headed back to the Dealer's room for another walk through. I picked up a couple things that I liked, as well as my husband, before we left and headed to the next event: Teddy Bear Chain-mail! It was so much fun! I wish I had the materials to be able to make my own, or just make other's...because I honestly enjoyed it...and flew through making it.
The last day we were there, we left the con and headed for the Children's Museum. I know...adults with no kids there...what a BORE! When, that's not really the case, and we weren't considered creepy either! Haha.
